Hair Loss Causes
Trichotillomania - Trichotillomania is a mental disorder first described in 1889 by the
dermatologist Hallopeau as a result of the examination of a patient who plucked her hair in
tufts and was evaluated as a type of alopecia (Swedo 1993)
Alopecia areata - Alopecia areata (Latin: Alopecia areata), colloquially known as ringworm
or ringworm disease, is a disease characterized by a widespread loss of hair on the scalp,
beard, eyebrows, eyelashes and other body hair over the entire body without any obvious
symptoms. An examination is necessary to make a diagnosis.
Triangular alopecia - Hair loss in the temporal areas, sometimes beginning in childhood.
Hair loss may be complete or fine hairs may remain. The cause of triangular alopecia is
unknown, but the condition can be treated medically or surgically.
Scoring alopecia - Hair loss due to scarring of the scalp. Scarring alopecia typically involves
the upper part of the scalp.
Telogen effluvium - This is the 2nd most common hair loss problem in women, but much
less common in men.
In addition to these, hair loss can be caused by intense stress, medications used for different
reasons, iron deficiency, environmental factors and postpartum period in women. However,
the main cause of hair loss is genetic hair loss.
